The Queen is Dead
by Kate Locke
Rating *** (3 stars)
It is interesting to note that when looking at the copyright information that the author's origional name is actually Kathryn Smith as apposed to Kate Locke. I could understand why she would have changed it. Kate is short and decicive - perhapse even the name that she typically uses. Locke is so much more memerable then Smith. This, in truth, has nothing to do with the actual review of the book. I just found it interesting.
The Queen Is Dead is the second book in The Immortal Empire. There are a total of three books. The first book was fast paced with a strong heroin who goes on a search for her sister and ends up finding a truth about herself that she never suspected. In this second book, she has to deal with the truth.
The heroin in this book is moody and self indulgent. I get that coming to terms with being a Goblin Queen has to be a bit of a shock. But, the author nearly completely changed her personality from strong and headstrong to strong and evasive. It was not a change that I enjoyed.
Do not get me wrong. The writing is still good. The plot is still fresh, and moves along decently. While there is a love connection it is not the entirety of the story. Basically, it is still worth reading to get to the third book.
