Book Review - Gospel Insights for Everyday Living

Gospel Insights for Everyday Living

Rating **** (4 stars)

Gospel Insights for Everyday Living is a LDS (check out lds.org for more information) book designed to give a brief gospel discussion into a number of topics including revelation, the fall of Adam, the power of never, and the plan of salvation. Each chapter is between two to four pages in length. They are designed to be read when you have 15 minutes, and you want to devote that time to increasing your faith. In truth, I read this is one Sunday afternoon. However, I have plans to reread the book in smaller segments allowing extra time to dwell on the concepts provided.

This book does have some really good gospel concepts. Since I have only been an active member for The Church (yep, capital letters) for a year and a half now some of the concepts were new to me. Other concepts were one's I recognized from attending church or taking the Missionary discussions.

When I read this book the one concept that really stuck with me is to cherish the moment that we are in.  There is nothing that we can do about the past, and the future will always be out of our reach, so the most pressing moment is the present. I ended up writing a blog post about it here.

So, if you have been LDS for your whole life then this book will most likely not present you with anything new, however it is a great way to stop and rethink about concepts. If you are new to The Church, or curious about what the LDS faith believes then this is the second best book to read. The first would be the Book of Mormon.
